On October 18, the School of Mechanical Engineering held a thematic event on mental health education for the graduate students of the Class of 2023 at the Seventh-floor Auditorium in the Mechanical Building. The event featured a presentation by the graduate student counselor, Ye Xin, with the participation of the 2023 graduate students from the school.
Ye Xin began by introducing the theme of the event, covering aspects such as the school's mental health education framework, self-assessment of psychological states, and pathways for seeking help. Regarding the mental health education framework, Ye Xin provided a detailed overview of the graduate student mental health crisis intervention system, which operates at the levels of the school, the school department, the class, and the research group/dormitory. She also discussed methods for self-assessment based on the degree of internal psychological distress, degree of social dysfunction, risk of self-harm, and deviation from social norms. Ye Xin emphasized the importance of seeking help when experiencing psychological distress, encouraging students to actively seek assistance from teachers, family, and friends. She further outlined the avenues available for psychological health education within the school, urging students to prioritize mental health while engaging in research activities and studies. Ye Xin encouraged maintaining a positive mindset to embrace a bright future.
Through this mental health education event, students gained knowledge on how to self-assess their mental states and seek assistance, contributing to their healthy growth in research activities and the balanced integration of life and academic pursuits.
